This vintage was one of the earliest on record for McLaren Vale. Cropping levels were down significantly varying from 10,20 and even 30% in some cases resulting in such an early start.
OWith only a handful of days over 40c the grapes retained good natural acid. The reduced cropping levels has resulted in grapes with greater intensity of flavour and natural grape tannins. The wine has spent an extra 2 days on skins, so as to integrate the extra tannin levels, all the time building and melding the intense flavours, weight, colour, and aromatics that have all the hallmarks of another outstanding McLaren Vale vintage. As with all our Grandeur Wellington wines they are released ready to drink and satisfying early but as with all good wines, they should reward patient cellaring and deliver greater complexity that can only come with time.
